Data On 311 Reports In Baltimore Were Leaked, &Identities Exposed

The database contained reports and complaints submitted by Baltimore’s residents. Additionally, the instance contained:

  • Reported traffic accidents
  • Housing sanitization requests and complaints
  • Road quality reports
  • Locations and statuses of speed cameras
  • Animal control complaints
  • Accusations of illegal activities

Some of the reports are already available to the public as the City’s government releases particular reports, as the majority of the data was provided through the 311 program. The amount and quantity of data in the instance, however, are much more than what is made available to the general public.

The group claimed that the case included more than 13.5 million reports that had been filed over several decades, some of which went back to 1989. The results indicate that multiple older, digitized reports were exposed by the data leak, as the 311 service was first introduced in 1996.

“The disclosure jeopardizes the security and privacy of people who reported problems on the platform, like charges of illegal conduct. For Baltimore residents who utilize the site, leaking such information might be dangerous.

Publishers vs Internet Archive

The free online library the Internet Archive (IA), was sued successfully by book publishers last year. The Internet Archive’s collection of titles has recently decreased by roughly 500,000.

Internet Archive is now appealing in an attempt to overturn the previous court’s ruling and win access back by persuading the US Court of Appeals in the Second Circuit that IA’s restricted digital lending of its physical books should be recognized as fair use in accordance with copyright laws. According to a court filing from April, IA plans to contend that the publishers lack proof that the open library’s lending has negatively impacted the e-book market and that copyright law would be better served by permitting IA’s lending rather than prohibiting it.

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Launches Investigations

Government organizations carry out antitrust investigations to find out if businesses are participating in anticompetitive behavior that could hurt customers and impede competition.

Nvidia looked into being the dominant GPU. Concerns have been expressed over Nvidia’s hegemony in the GPU industry, according to the New York Times, “particularly how the company’s software locks customers into using its chips, as well as how Nvidia distributes those chips to customers.” Over the past week, Nvidia has surpassed Apple and Microsoft to become one of the three biggest corporations in the world by market capitalization; the three companies are valued almost equally.

Microsoft looked into possible connections to AI businesses. The close cooperation between Microsoft and OpenAI and the possibility of anticompetitive behavior will probably be the main topics of the investigation. There may be worries about competitors finding it more difficult to enter the AI business as a result of Microsoft’s $13 billion investment in OpenAI and the incorporation of OpenAI’s technology into Microsoft products.

More whistleblower protections from AI businesses are demanded by OpenAI staff. Nine current and former OpenAI employees wrote an open letter that was released last week, expressing worries that AI companies would hide hazards associated with their systems from the public and government. It then urges AI companies to grant permission to present and past workers to voice concerns about risks without fear of reprisal.

Former OpenAI board member Helen Toner explains why she is trying to remove Sam Altman. Although Altman was previously cited by the board for “not [being] consistently candid,” the public’s understanding of this has been limited. Toner provides three justifications in an interview for the board’s choice: Providing false information regarding the company’s safety procedures, failing to disclose to the board that he owned the OpenAI Startup Fund, and seeking to remove Toner from the board after she released “a research paper that angered him” are all examples of Altman’s misconduct.

Snowflake Wants Customers To Enable MFA As Investigations Continues

According to Snowflake, in order to stop further intrusions, it will start requiring its clients to use multi-factor authentication.

The action is a reaction to an event that Hudson Rock analysts uncovered late last month. In that incident, information from Santander, a Spanish bank, and most recently—hundreds of millions of customer files from Advance Auto Parts—were purloined by cybercriminals along with over a terabyte of data from Ticketmaster. Everybody is a Snowflake client.

In addition to forcing Hudson Rock to delete its article and threatening legal action, Snowflake also said that it was looking into “a targeted threat campaign against some Snowflake customer accounts.”

In addition to forcing Hudson Rock to delete its article and threatening legal action, Snowflake also said that it was looking into “a targeted threat campaign against some Snowflake customer accounts.”

Snowflake maintains its denial that it was targeted directly, stating that it didn’t think any vulnerabilities or incorrect setups in its environment were the reason for events at its clients. It also stated that, contrary to what Hudson Rock had stated, it had not discovered any evidence indicating the issue was caused by a compromised set of Snowflake employee credentials, but it did state that it thought the credentials had been obtained by malware or purchases.

Snowflake has stated that threat actors are now targeting clients that do not have MFA enabled, therefore that is where it is focusing its efforts for the time being.

Study Reveals Bosses Hope RTO Would Make Employees Quit

A study purports to provide evidence for what others have speculated: that mandatory return-to-office policies are merely covert layoffs and that the terrible post-COVID work culture is affecting everyone.

HR software industry Of the more than 1,500 employees surveyed by BambooHR, one-third are employed in HR. The results indicate that the return to work movement has been a mishandled failure, but one statistic in particular jumps out: 25% of executives and 5% of HR professionals said they thought RTO rules would cause employees to quit.

Although that figure effectively acknowledges the silent portion, there was some truth to that notion. When RTO requirements were implemented at many of the biggest organizations, people did leave, but the analysis finds that this was insufficient.

The study discovered that almost a third (37%) of respondents in leadership positions thought their companies had made layoffs in the previous 12 months because not enough employees had departed in opposition to RTO requirements. Almost the same percentage believed that their managers should have kept staff members in the office to keep a closer eye on them.

Ticketmaster Attacker Has Ghosted

The Ticketmaster offenders have ghosted, and the deletion of their accounts raises the possibility of an arrest.

There’s a lot of speculation in the darknet community that threat actor ShinyHunters, aka ShinyCorp, may have been taken into custody. At the end of May, ShinyHunters came to light because of its role in security breaches that affected Santander Banks and Ticketmaster.

Internet users have seen that Shiny has removed his Telegram channel and account, which belonged to an international cyber threat group.

The notorious BreachForums, a marketplace for stolen data that has reportedly been offline “on both clearnet and Tor,” is thought to have been managed by the group. Cybernews checked, and the website is currently non active. However, it not known whether it’s for technical issues or legal action.

Blacks & The Lowest Levels Of Poverty Rates In The United States

Every year the Census Bureau releases two measures of poverty: the official poverty measure and the Supplemental Poverty Measure (SPM).  The official poverty measure, available back to 1959, defines poverty by comparing pretax money income to a national poverty threshold adjusted by family size, number of children and age of householder.

AI & Mammograms

The accuracy of AI algorithms used to interpret digital mammograms can be strongly impacted by the age and race of the patient, according to a study published in Radiology, a publication published by the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA).

Researchers from Duke University Medical Center used around 5,000 digital breast tomosynthesis screening tests for their investigation. It was discovered that AI algorithms generated false positive findings less frequently among Asian patients and younger people (41–50 years old) and more frequently among Black patients and older people (71–80 years old).

TikTok Updates It’s Terms of Service

The business informed vendors on Wednesday that TikTok has modified its terms of service for TikTok Shop sellers to address anti-money laundering and sanctions compliance. Sellers must abide by all applicable laws designed to prevent money laundering, provide TikTok with the information it seeks, and notify TikTok of any money laundering activity, whether it be suspected or proven.

The Information published a story earlier this year about the criticism of TikTok’s anti-money laundering measures. When HSBC, a bank based in the United Kingdom, found flaws in ByteDance’s money-laundering safeguards, it closed the accounts of the parent firm of TikTok, ByteDance. Later, ByteDance deceived Irish regulators about the reason behind the money transfers from its HSBC accounts, which caused the regulator to postpone deciding whether to approve the operation of ByteDance’s payments business in Ireland.
